Building a successful health coaching or wellness practice takes more than being great at helping clients. If your entire business depends on you showing up, seeing clients, and doing everything yourself, eventually something has to give.
In this episode of the Health Coach Academy Podcast, we sit down with Dr. Brandy LeBlanc, an acupuncturist, entrepreneur, and creator of the Practice Profit Blueprint, to explore how wellness practitioners can build businesses that are profitable, sustainable, and capable of growing beyond the practitioner.
Dr. LeBlanc’s entrepreneurial journey began with a single treatment room and a rolling cart. Over time, she expanded her practice—but after experiencing serious burnout, she discovered a major flaw in the business she had created: the entire practice revolved around her. When she tried bringing in other practitioners, patients still wanted to see only her.
That experience forced her to rethink what it really means to build a wellness business.
Rather than simply creating a personal brand, Dr. LeBlanc began identifying what clients valued about their experience and developing systems that could reproduce those qualities throughout the practice. The goal was to create consistency so that clients could receive the same level of service regardless of which practitioner they saw.
One of her biggest breakthroughs came from something surprisingly simple: knowing her numbers.
After years of avoiding the financial side of her business, Dr. LeBlanc began reviewing her finances regularly, including conducting a P&L review every Monday. Understanding exactly what was coming in and going out gave her a stronger foundation for making business decisions and planning for the future.
We also dig into the concept of “money leaks”—expenses and decisions that can quietly drain a wellness business. From purchasing expensive equipment before it is necessary to leasing a large office before having enough clients, hiring too many employees, or simply not knowing how much profit each client generates, small financial decisions can have enormous consequences.
Dr. LeBlanc explains why she believes entrepreneurs should start lean, establish the fundamentals, and build a strong foundation before attempting to scale.
They also discuss her Practice Profit Blueprint, which helps practitioners identify weaknesses in their businesses and progress through three stages: provider, business owner, and legacy. That foundation can include financial awareness, legal and operational requirements, business agreements, insurance-related requirements, safety procedures, and other systems that allow an owner to grow with greater confidence.

Dr. LeBlanc also shares an important lesson for health coaches who dream about eventually stepping away from constant client work: don’t wait until you’re already exhausted to start building a business that can operate without you. Her own experience led her to begin developing additional support, training an understudy, and gradually building the Practice Profit Blueprint while continuing her clinical work.
Whether you’re just starting your health coaching business or have a full client roster but feel trapped by the demands of your practice, this conversation offers a practical look at what it takes to move from self-employed practitioner to true business owner—and eventually create a business with a legacy beyond yourself.
HCA – Dr. Brandy LeBlanc
[00:00:00] Omar Cumberbatch: Hey, Dr. LeBlanc. Welcome to the show. How are you today?
[00:00:05] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Good. How are you doing?
[00:00:07] Omar Cumberbatch: Fantastic. So excited to share you with the audience. Uh, s- I did a lot of research on you. I think, uh, you’re gonna help out a lot of health coaches, because this is your thing, right? Yes. I mean, not only as a practitioner, you have a wonderful origin story, so I wanna let you have an opportunity to tell us a little bit about that as well.
[00:00:24] And then we’re just gonna jump into a whole bunch of different questions, and then we’ll, we’ll get to know each other a little bit better, and just really excited to hear your perspective on health coaches and business acumen and all that good stuff.
[00:00:36] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Okay, sounds good.
[00:00:38] Omar Cumberbatch: All right.
[00:00:38] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: You want me to just start with the origin story then?
[00:00:40] Omar Cumberbatch: Yeah, that’d be great.
[00:00:41] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Okay. It’s pretty interesting. Um, so I’m from Oklahoma, and, um, in Oklahoma in 199- Nine is when I decided to go learn acupuncture, and everybody thought I was crazy. Um, I had, you know, always had high grades and scholarships and all the things, so my dad and my family thought I was gonna be something.
[00:01:05] And when I told them I was gonna be an acupunc- I was going to acupuncture school, they just thought I wasted their money and my life, you know? Mm. So, um, so I did that, and five years later when I came back, everyone in Oklahoma thought that I was Satanic because of like- … the yin-yang symbol and, you know, just using Eastern medicine.
[00:01:26] And so even with my family, I, I really had a, a major struggle, but I knew I was on the right path somehow. So I started with a single room and a rollie cart. I would roll the cart in and, and, you know, interview the patient, get the patient ready, and roll the cart out and needle the patient, and I would sit out in the hallway of this building Mm
[00:01:48] this old, dilapidated building, and I would take my notes and put their chart notes in the rollie cart. And then when it’s time to pull needles, I would go back in the room. So I just had one room, and then I sat on the floor right outside the room- Mm … while the needles were in the patients. And this building had multiple rooms, so as I grew, I would just rent another room and another room, and eventually I was renting, like, five of the rooms, nearly the whole p- portion of that building.
[00:02:13] Omar Cumberbatch: Mm-hmm.
[00:02:14] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: So it… needless to say, it was a, it was a very slow growth, and I had some help along the way, but when I started really growing is when, um, COVID came. And I was… I had just restarted my practice in a new town, in Tulsa, and there was nothing for me to do, and so I started seeking out coaches. I thought, “Well, I should be doing something to, you know, o- to work on the business while there’s all this time.”
[00:02:38] And that’s when I learned the value of a business coach Mm-hmm … or a, or a health coach or any kind of coach, because I never knew anybody that owned businesses. My f- I was the first person in my family to even go to college, let alone get a graduate degree. So it kind of opened up a whole new world for me, helped me expand my mind.
[00:02:58] And so really that’s where I am now. I’ve, I’ve come to a place in my practice that I can’t sust- I couldn’t sus- sa- sust- sustain it by myself anymore.
[00:03:07] Omar Cumberbatch: Mm.
[00:03:08] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: And so I’ve had to learn all kinds of new things, um, in a, a few years to get to where I am now. And I- now I’m at a place where, like, my passion is to really help people not spend 23 years trying to grow their practice before they’re at a place that they can start exiting the business.
[00:03:25] Omar Cumberbatch: No, I gotcha. I gotcha. And, you know, when I was doing the research on you, I just want to e- also emphasize that you did overcome a health crisis as well, because I know a lot of- Oh, yes … coaches, yeah, who, uh, kind of jump into this field is because they’ve overcome a- Yes … health crisis or something of that sort.
[00:03:42] Can you talk about that a drop, too?
[00:03:45] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: So, uh, it was right around COVID, I guess. So I worked at a can- I, I had my own practice, and then I moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to work at Cancer Treatment Centers of America. And I worked there for seven years, and then they closed their program, so I essentially had to restart practice all over again.
[00:04:01] So I was burning the candle at both ends trying to get going again. And in that, within, I don’t know, it was probably a year and a half, two years, I hit burnout. I couldn’t get out of bed. Right. I couldn’t do anything. And, and I’ve had a fibromyalgia diagnosis most of my life, and depression, and, you know, I really struggled through m- which most of us do, much…
[00:04:22] Most of us wellness practitioners have struggled through some kind of physical issue. Mm. So but the burnout was real. And, uh, I, I guess I didn’t really believe it wholly until it happened to me.
[00:04:34] Omar Cumberbatch: Mm-hmm.
[00:04:34] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: And I had to start hiring, um, practitioners to take over my patients, and then my patients didn’t wanna go to any practitioner but me.
[00:04:42] So then I realized that I had built my entire business around my name and my personality, which is not a good idea. Mm. But I didn’t know that. So not only when I hit burnout and I had to hire other people, and then I realized everything was built around me, that’s kind of what initiated this coaching thing, um, to, to learn how to just kind of manage it all, ’cause it’s all…
[00:05:06] It’s, it’s a lot for one per- person to do even if they don’t have health issues. Yeah. And when you start struggling with chronic disease, you can’t do near as much as, you know, the person next to you, so.
[00:05:19] Omar Cumberbatch: So you brought up a couple of interesting points. I guess, um, I, I’ll spin back on some, but, uh, I just want, uh, uh, while it’s fresh in my head.
[00:05:26] You did burn out because you took on the majority of the operation, and you were the brand, you were the name and everything like that. But we do have conflicting advice about the concept of branding and the importance of branding, and I hate that word all, s- to the core. Mm-hmm. Um, and I, I’m curious because it doesn’t seem like you believe in that philosophy.
[00:05:50] Um, and you kind of prove that it’s not the, the end all be all when it comes to this kind of work as well.
[00:05:56] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: I think it kind of depends on what you want. Before I hit burnout- I didn’t realize how important one day it was gonna be for me to not be the acupuncturist.
[00:06:12] Omar Cumberbatch: Mm-hmm.
[00:06:12] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: You know, I didn’t realize that if I wanted to leave a legacy, that my m- my practice could not be built around just me.
[00:06:20] I had… That I had to find the qualities of the business that, or the qualities of me that people like, and then learn how to systematize and share that, and train that, because, um, you know, it was just like a big realization that, “Hey, lady, this is all on you.”
[00:06:39] Omar Cumberbatch: Mm-hmm.
[00:06:39] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: And you know I’ve been a single mom most of my life.
[00:06:42] I’ve kind of done everything myself, and so I was like, “Man, I’m never, I’m never gonna, I’m never gonna get a break.” Mm-hmm. So, so it was a big, it was a big realization to come to, and it really spurred a lot of, a lot of change for me. Um, I do c- I believe in branding on some level, not like, uh, inauthentic type branding.
[00:07:03] Mm-hmm. But, like, what is it that makes people come to you? What is it about you and your practice that, that, um, people really see as a benefit and as value?
[00:07:13] Omar Cumberbatch: Mm-hmm.
[00:07:13] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: And f- and, and teaching that and systematizing it in some sort of way so that no matter when a patient comes in or who they’re seeing, they- they’ll have that same feeling, and they’re not, y- they’re not…
[00:07:28] They, they always know what’s gonna happen when they walk through the door. They’re never questioning their care, or is such and such gonna be late, or are they gonna ask me to do this, or whatever. If everything is the same, and you can teach that, then you can eventually kind of remove yourself from daily constant grind.
[00:07:49] Omar Cumberbatch: Mm-hmm. Yeah, and I think that’s interesting because, again, when, when we get out of our certification programs, we’re thinking that, like you said, you gotta do everything. Uh, y- a lot of people, again, selling that brand idea. Uh, uh, is there a way that you’ve infused… Uh, a- and I know you have, but I just, I guess, how do you get others on board who work for you to do what you were doing?
[00:08:13] Like, I think that that’s an interesting aspect that you’re kind of alluding to, um, because you still are the overarching, I guess, name and, uh- Mm-hmm … again, brand. Mm-hmm. That’s, that’s even labeling it. How do you infuse that on, uh, people who you’re training to actually help you i- in this process too?
[00:08:31] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Um, for me, it’s been very difficult.
[00:08:33] I’ve gone through a lot of employees.
[00:08:36] Omar Cumberbatch: Mm.
[00:08:36] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Um, I think at this point I would say- I, and I know you’ve heard this a million times, but just being crystal clear on what it is, what your focus is, what your dream is, what it is that you want. Yeah. Because you’ll be able to see that in people that come and work for you.
[00:08:58] You’ll be able to tell if, if they’re even interested in that at all. It’s really easy to be like, “Man, I don’t wanna fire this person ’cause they’re so good at answering their phones, or they’re so good at doing this and that.”
[00:09:09] Omar Cumberbatch: Yeah, yeah.
[00:09:09] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: But they’re so off-brand for you that you’re like, i- it’s, people don’t feel the same when they, when they walk in the door.
[00:09:17] Mm-hmm. And so, um, you know, hiring, hiring slowly, firing quickly, uh, not trying to explain issues away, and being okay with hiring and firing really until you find the people that, that wanna work with you and wanna do what you do. And I’m really good at rewarding my employees. Yeah. So I will get them, you know, clothing that they can wear to work that has, like, our name on it or something like that.
[00:09:46] And I’ll, um… Like, I, I have a 401and match 3% with my employees even though they’re-
[00:09:53] Omar Cumberbatch: Oh, awesome …
[00:09:54] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: part-time. And, um, I’ll give ’em bonuses and, you know, I try to really let them… I always tell them how much I appreciate them ’cause the ones, if you find one, one single employee that is, is in there with you, it is just worth everything.
[00:10:12] And so, and they know I will do anything to keep them.
[00:10:16] Omar Cumberbatch: Oh, yeah,
[00:10:16] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: yeah. So yeah, be- because, um, it is so har- it has been so hard for me to find somebody that will work at the quality that I need, and I’m very, very particular.
[00:10:30] Omar Cumberbatch: Oh, yeah.
[00:10:30] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: So it’s not been easy, but it has been worth it.
[00:10:34] Omar Cumberbatch: Okay. And before we get into, you know, the practice profit blueprint, I, I, I wanted to just make a, a mention, and Kyra, you did it, what you had mentioned earlier, um, because I think this is something that I always ask a lot of the guests on the show, and I think, uh, that we can appreciate it because not everybody does come from a family of entrepreneurs and, a- and, uh, coaches or a- any kind of, uh, business background.
[00:10:58] Um, how difficult you think was the transition? I know that you said you didn’t grow up with anyone in your family like that, but did you have the bones in you, uh, that just needed to be unleashed, or was something that you just say, you know, that, that you had to work on and learn a- a- and go through the process to, to get to better?
[00:11:16] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: I would say I had the bones, but I didn’t have the flesh, you know? Mm-hmm. I, I didn’t have the knowledge at all.
[00:11:23] Omar Cumberbatch: Mm-hmm.
[00:11:23] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: But I love math, and I love business, and I’m very analytical and things like that. So a lot of the stuff that acupuncturists hate, I actually love.
[00:11:34] Omar Cumberbatch: Hmm.
[00:11:34] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: And that was helpful.
[00:11:36] Omar Cumberbatch: Okay.
[00:11:36] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Because I, you know, I’m, I’m very, I guess you would call it Type A, which does- isn’t- doesn’t really coincide typically with an acupuncturist.
[00:11:45] Yeah. So that was- The first thing that helped me out. And then, and then really I just kind of struggled until I, until I hit that burnout, I really kind of struggled with business. It paid my bills, it paid my f- my family’s bills, and um, and it, it gave me a good life, but there was no possibility of retirement until I hit burnout and started getting business coaching.
[00:12:09] Omar Cumberbatch: Mm. Mm-hmm. So w- um, what was it about the business coaching specifically that was the eye-opening moment that made you transition to now you’re teaching us how to-
[00:12:20] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Mm-hmm …
[00:12:20] Omar Cumberbatch: to do exactly what you did? And then again, I guess we’ll jump into your blueprint.
[00:12:24] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Probably the primary thing, which I’m, I’m even embarrassed to say this, ’cause this was 18 years in when I started going to business coaching.
[00:12:33] Uh, looking at my money every day.
[00:12:36] Omar Cumberbatch: Mm-hmm.
[00:12:36] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: And, you know, I was the type that I did not wanna know I did not wanna know what the money looked like. I was just trying to get, you know, paycheck to paycheck, bill to bill. And, and I was so scared to look at my money.
[00:12:50] Omar Cumberbatch: Mm.
[00:12:50] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: And now I look at it every single day. I do a P&L every Monday.
[00:12:55] I evaluate, I eva- evaluate my finances every single Monday, personal and business. Mm. And then once a month, I do all of my assets and all of, all of my, um, expenses. I have this whole layout. I know exactly to the dollar how much money I have and how much is going out. And um, that made a huge difference.
[00:13:15] Because then you’re not living in fear, and you’re living in y- it, it feels like a solid foundation when you know about your money.
[00:13:23] Omar Cumberbatch: Right, right, right. Okay.
[00:13:24] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: And then finding my values was, was like kind of the next level. Like, okay, what is it that you want?
[00:13:30] Omar Cumberbatch: Mm-hmm.
[00:13:31] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: What do you see in the future? ‘Cause I didn’t know what I saw in the future ’cause I didn’t see retirement.
[00:13:38] I didn’t see being married. I didn’t see my son growing up. You know, like, it was just kind of like survival mode.
[00:13:44] Omar Cumberbatch: Yeah, yeah. Um,
[00:13:45] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: mm-hmm.
[00:13:46] Omar Cumberbatch: Okay. No, that, that ma- makes sense, and I, I’ve, I’ve heard that a lot. I, and it’s very important and, and I, I like to, to reiterate that because again, health coaches, um, and a lot of entrepreneurs, especially if they don’t have that entrepreneurial background in the, in the healing world, right?
[00:14:00] Specifically.
[00:14:01] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Mm-hmm.
[00:14:01] Omar Cumberbatch: Um, always wanna help, help, help, help, and they don’t get down to, like, that aspect of it. Mm-hmm. So I’m glad that you were y- mentioning the importance of it, even though you were a Type A personality. It, it is a good marriage that you have between the, your personality and what you, you, you actually do as a service.
[00:14:16] So that’s really cool. So without further ado, I would love for you to just share a little bit about what you do and how you help health coaches with, you know, the Practice Profit Blueprint.
[00:14:27] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Okay, so the, the Practice Profit Blueprint is basically, it’s, it’s not some- Um, just lay out that everybody fits into certain categories or anything.
[00:14:39] Um, I, I word it in a way that it could, it should fit everybody, but really what we do is we set, we sit down, we figure out where your leaks are. Where is money leaking? We figure out your money. But step one is foundation, and I know, I know, um, business owners hate to build the foundation, but it is, like, the most important part.
[00:15:02] So we check and see, like, if you… w- where, where is your goal, even one goal, and how do you get there, and what is it building on? Because if it’s building on this part of the foundation that’s not together, then we can’t build it yet. Like, there are things that have to happen, just like, you know, if you want a degree, there are things you have to do to get the degree.
[00:15:24] I feel like business is very much the same, and the things that are The hardest to do or the most boring to do are the, some of the most important things. And once they’re done, they’re done. So you just- Mm … you know, basically once it’s solid you can move on and it’s easy. But the, that’s step one there.
[00:15:43] And then we work on… Go ahead.
[00:15:45] Omar Cumberbatch: No, I, um, I know that you said it’s not, uh, the same for everyone, but foundational, uh, I think when, when you said it, I’m thinking of something, say a website, say a s- like, it, it… Can you tell, talk about what the foundation- Oh …
[00:16:02] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: is? Well, one, uh, one of them is looking at your money.
[00:16:05] Omar Cumberbatch: Okay.
[00:16:06] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: You gotta know, you gotta know these things. Um, you need to be legal, so whatever that means. Ah, yeah. Um, I think a lot of practitioners are doing illegal things, like, uh, with acupuncturists. I know some acupuncturists needle through clothing, and I just don’t think that that is good, um, because you’re putting…
[00:16:27] You know, anyway. And then, um, and then having the correct… So for example, if you wanna do contracting and have, and have insurance pay, then you have to have your NPI, and you have to have your CAQH number. You have to have all of these things in order to ever get to that place. So we just set up that whole, that whole system that makes you able to move forward.
[00:16:50] Mm. And it involves all the, um, having an OSHA book. Um, in case OSHA just happens to come in, which they never do, but in case OSHA happens to come in, you’re not gonna get closed down. Right. So it’s, it’s so that you can move forward with confidence, and it, and it is the boring stuff. Operating agreement, agreements.
[00:17:08] Omar Cumberbatch: Right, right.
[00:17:08] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: You know, knowing about your lease, and things like that. And that doesn’t have to take long. I just have a, I have a checklist and you go through and it’s like, here’s, here’s step one. Go through and tell me of these things, what you have in, in place right now. And then we just work through that, what need, what isn’t in place, that needs in place before you can even move on to the next level.
[00:17:31] And I have things written as three levels, basically. So you’re starting as, you know, the provider, and then you’re moving to a business owner, and then you’re moving to a legacy.
[00:17:41] Omar Cumberbatch: Mm-hmm.
[00:17:42] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: So to get to a business owner from a provider, there, there just has to be some things in place.
[00:17:48] Omar Cumberbatch: Okay. No, it makes sense.
[00:17:49] Yeah, I’m glad that you brought it up because, uh, I, I’ve heard so many different aspects of that. Like, you know, ’cause, ’cause one of the interesting things, uh, y- you very, um, uh, that it seems like hardcore f-, um, logistical things, and I hear f- some people talk about foundation as like, who am I actually helping first?
[00:18:08] Like, we gotta get-
[00:18:09] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Mm-hmm …
[00:18:10] Omar Cumberbatch: yeah. Yeah.
[00:18:11] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Yeah.
[00:18:12] Omar Cumberbatch: It’s, this is like, so I find it interesting that there’s two perspectives, uh, to it initially. You know, like, and um, I guess there’s, there- there’s many ways to skin the cat, as they say. But, um, yeah, I, I like the way that you put, present it. Because those are, like those are probably things that are gonna last with you- Even longer.
[00:18:30] We do see a lot of people who do shift their avatar-
[00:18:35] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Mm-hmm …
[00:18:36] Omar Cumberbatch: as the doors open, right? They kinda see as they’re in it, they’re seeing new things and new ways of helping people that they didn’t, didn’t necessarily imagine when they started out at the f- initially.
[00:18:47] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Yes. Yeah. Well, and I think also especially with acupuncturists, um, word of mouth has always been how I get most of my patients.
[00:18:57] Omar Cumberbatch: Mm-hmm.
[00:18:58] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: And so the whole marketing and, um, ICA situation with an acupuncturist at least.
[00:19:04] Omar Cumberbatch: Mm-hmm.
[00:19:05] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Um, j- it just comes with who you’re treating and who they refer to you, at least initially. You know, you’re kind of like feeling it out, you know? ‘Cause I used to think I wanted to work with, like, more chronic issues, and I was like, “Okay, well, this takes a long time,” and I didn’t wanna explain it all, all the time.
[00:19:25] And so, you know, so I have a contract with the VA, and I see patients for pain, and I have a contract with, um, Indian Health Services, and I… That’s more, like, emotional stuff. Um, so it, y- I kinda feel like at first you need to work with… Unless you have a passion for a certain ICA- You just kind of start off and, and see who you see while you get your practice together.
[00:19:53] Omar Cumberbatch: Mm-hmm. What I also have heard o- over the years, um, doing this show, so I’ve… It’s, you know, well over 200 shows and there’s so many different ideas. Do you think that’s even more prevalent for the brick-and-mortar practices as opposed to the online practices? Um, in other words, the, the, uh, the ideal, uh, the ICA is specifically more in tuned for, like, uh, online coaching programs as opposed to someone who has a brick-and-mortar store, um, and they can get, uh, the benefit of word of mouth and just being in a location that has- Sure
[00:20:30] traffic and actually like makes…
[00:20:31] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Sure. Like, if you’re not, if you’re not married to a geographical spot it makes things a lot easier, and you can have more of a specified ICA. I don’t know. I think, I think because it took me so long to figure out who mine was
[00:20:49] Omar Cumberbatch: Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah,
[00:20:50] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: yeah … uh, I, I don’t know exactly how someone would do that off, off, off the bat.
[00:20:58] Like, I think they would need a different coach than me if they were trying to, like, let’s say they graduated dental school and they wanna become a dentist, and they’re gonna pay somebody to do all those, you know, NPI, CAQH, all those safety things and OSHA. Sometimes they’ll just pay a couple hundred grand and get those things done for them.
[00:21:18] Omar Cumberbatch: Yeah.
[00:21:18] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: But I’m c- I come from more of, like, a bootstrapping, you know, situation. And so I, I personally wouldn’t… I, I don’t wouldn’t have a lot of… I wouldn’t be a lot of help for somebody who’s wanting to just graduate and go. Mm. As far as ICA goes and marketing and that sort of thing is certainly not my, my strength.
[00:21:42] Omar Cumberbatch: Right, right, right. Yeah, no, I, I think it, you know, again, like depending on the entry points of where, like, say, those individuals come in, they, yeah, they would obviously choose something that might be a little bit different as opposed to that. ‘Cause like you said, some people just, hey, have unlimited budgets, you know?
[00:21:59] Yeah. Or at least in their mind. Yeah. Right? So- Mm-hmm … I guess that’s a good segue to talk about one of the things that I noticed that you like to d- demonstrate and talk about are, are these leaks, right? Mm-hmm. I can definitely see a huge budget, uh, for frivolous advertising, stuff like that being a leak in your, your, your, your cashflow.
[00:22:17] What other leaks do you come across in a person’s business that they’re o- often overlooked?
[00:22:24] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Oh, things that you think that you need that you don’t are very big. Mm-hmm. So, um, like mechanical tables, $4,000 when you can buy a, a regular table for 100 bucks. I mean, I am, I am all about doing things for the least amount of money to get going.
[00:22:44] Yeah. So that you can comfortably transition. So, um, like a, a great big brick-and-mortar place when you don’t have a patient yet. Mm-hmm. You know? Um, I, I know it’s kind of scary to switch locations once you, once you build a practice, however, it’s so much better to start small and then move- Yeah … than to start huge and drain all your money and not be able to, you know, go m- make it a year.
[00:23:15] Mm-hmm. Um, again, I think that having… Depending on how much money you have, that might make a difference. Mm-hmm. But most of us don’t have that kind of endless supply. And then also maybe having too many, um, employees, you know, hiring too many people to start. Mm-hmm. Or adding too many people at once when you don’t know even what they’re gonna do, be doing.
[00:23:37] Right. And you don’t know how much money you have. So one thing that I did was, it… and is important to do, is to sit down and see how much, from what you charge and what you make, uh, how much each patient brings in. And if you’re, you know, if you’re losing money per patient, then you, then there’s no way that you can grow your business.
[00:23:57] And so just figuring out those little things. I, I think of those as leaks, as if you don’t know how much you’re actually making, uh, per patient, and then figuring out how much you’re paying your, the people that are working for you, then… I mean, it’s just like a guessing game, right? If you don’t know all these things.
[00:24:16] Right. So the leaks to me are more like when you’re not clear on what you need and what’s coming in. Because it’s easy to lose in, in that-
[00:24:30] Omar Cumberbatch: Y- yeah, yeah …
[00:24:31] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: place. Yeah.
[00:24:33] Omar Cumberbatch: No, absolutely. And I, I, I totally agree. I, um, I do wanna talk about, you know, I know that we’re running up on time, um, you know, uh, i- in your recommendations to health coaches who are kinda like, you know, s- like you started out, you know, d- doing dollars for hours.
[00:24:53] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Mm-hmm.
[00:24:54] Omar Cumberbatch: Um, do you talk about in your blueprint, like expanding that, like how… Not, you know, ’cause there’s definitely different methods. I know that you can increase your price at, you know, and that, that, that’s a whole show in and o- in and of-
[00:25:04] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: That’s what everybody tells you to do, right?
[00:25:05] Omar Cumberbatch: Right, right, right.
[00:25:06] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: First off, yeah.
[00:25:08] Omar Cumberbatch: Right. That, that’s the thing. That’s a whole show in and of itself. Yeah. And all the booby traps around that. Um, do you get away and, like, do other things, like, to help, um, you know, just formative, uh, a- alternate form of income that you’re not necessarily having to be present specifically during that time, um, on a, from, in that 24-hour window that you have in a day?
[00:25:30] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Yeah. So that would be the, that Practice Profit Blueprint. Um, and what I did is I, I waited too long to start something like that because I was already tired and I’m, and I already am so… Like, patients already get frustrated with me because I’m not available-
[00:25:48] Omar Cumberbatch: Hmm …
[00:25:48] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: um, as much as I n- need to be. Also, I work on, um, I go to a reservation on Tuesdays and Thursdays because that’s a passion of mine.
[00:25:57] I’m Native and I, I like to help, but then that takes two days out of my work week. So I’ve had to kind of decide, you know, am I, am I following my passion there, or where, where do my hours go? And so I’ve, I’ve set it up to where I can do some of that while I’m there because I don’t have, I don’t have to work as hard when I’m there.
[00:26:17] Omar Cumberbatch: Yeah.
[00:26:17] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: And, um, and then just building. I’ve just been building the Practice Profit Blueprint very slowly and just getting really clear on where my, um- Where I can be most helpful and where my genius is in that.
[00:26:32] Omar Cumberbatch: Mm-hmm. Well-
[00:26:34] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: But it’s been slow. Honestly, it’s been slow. It’s been hard.
[00:26:37] Omar Cumberbatch: Yeah. But I think, you know, again, like-
[00:26:39] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Mm-hmm
[00:26:40] Omar Cumberbatch: you already got your foundation, you know, like you’re kind of- Mm-hmm … walking the walk when it comes to that. Yeah. It’s really just a matter of now just seeing what works best at- Yeah … uh, you know, y- y- y- you do it, it’s working, you know?
[00:26:54] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Yeah.
[00:26:54] Omar Cumberbatch: So-
[00:26:55] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: And I have an understudy right now. That’s what has worked out for me is I have an understudy who I’m training.
[00:27:00] In Oklahoma there aren’t licensure laws, and so I’m training her to work direct- exactly like I want, the way I work. And so w- she, she does, like she’ll pull the needles for me. Um, she’s trained in a, in certain acupuncture points, so those points she’ll do. She flips the patients.
[00:27:19] Omar Cumberbatch: Mm-hmm.
[00:27:19] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: She does all the phone calls.
[00:27:20] And I, I highly recommend, I highly recommend finding, like from the get-go, trying to find somebody to be your assistant or protege or something like that to take all those extra stressors off of you. I’ve been able to, I’ve been able to grow and build the business having her around, whereas before I was just, I was barely making it through the day seeing patients.
[00:27:46] Omar Cumberbatch: Right, right, right. No, it’s a lot. It’s, it’s-
[00:27:48] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Yeah …
[00:27:49] Omar Cumberbatch: definitely.
[00:27:49] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Mm-hmm.
[00:27:50] Omar Cumberbatch: And so Dr. LeBlanc, you’ve been fantastic today. I, I want to give you an opportunity to share how we can keep up with all the good things you’re doing. Uh, so your social media handles, your website, anything that we can keep up with all the good stuff that you’re doing.
[00:28:05] And if anybody’s interested in jumping on and getting to know a little bit more about the Practice Profit Blueprint directly from you, how could they do that?
[00:28:12] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Uh, I would just go to practiceprofitblueprint.org. That would probably be the best way. I am on LinkedIn, just Brandi LeBlanc. And, um, and I… You know, if, if somebody has questions or if they’re not sure that it’s a good fit, I’m happy to answer the questions.
[00:28:28] We don’t have it set up right now where you can’t contact me. Mm-hmm. So you won’t be sent through a bunch of avenues-
[00:28:36] Omar Cumberbatch: Right,
[00:28:36] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: right … to actually get a question answered, so.
[00:28:39] Omar Cumberbatch: Awesome, awesome. Well, I definitely appreciate that, and it was great meeting you. You too. And hope you have a great rest of the day.
[00:28:46] Dr. Brandy LeBlanc: Thanks. You too. Thank you.
